Joe first came to Chapel Hill in 1971 as a graduate student at Duke University. He returned in 1999 with a technology startup in Research Triangle Park. He brings a wealth of international business and financial experience to his clients including management of PHH Asia Corporation, the Asian arm of the world's leading executive relocation company. He has earned both the Certified Relocation Professional and Global Mobility Specialist designations - demonstrating the commitment which he and his team have to working with corporate transferees and new hires. Joe is married to novelist Joanna Catherine Scott, author of The Road from Chapel Hill, Cassandra, Lost, The Lucky Gourd Shop and Charlie, A Novel of War. They have six children. Joe is active with the National Association of Corporate Directors where he holds the Certificate of Director Education and serves on the boards of The China Fund (NYSE: CHN) and The Taiwan Fund (NYSE:TWN).
He also serves on the boards of the Triangle chapter of the International Affairs Council and American Diplomacy Publishers. He holds PhD and MA degrees in Economics from Duke University and a BA in Economics and Philosophy from the University of Oklahoma.
